Liverpool's Georgian Quarter in Canning was conceived by city planner John Foster Snr in 1800, to create elegant terraced town houses for the city’s elite. The mid-20th century sadly brought some demolition; but many of the remaining properties are now listed, and all are in a conservation area.
In 2012 Riverside Housing Group commissioned TRC to undertake refurbishment work to over 70 properties in Pelham Grove, Bedford Street, Belvidere Street and Princess Road.
Work included window refurbishment, and some replacements; but also extended to painting, brick and stone repairs, lead work and roofing. The properties remained occupied, so good communication with residents was essential.
A programme of window replacement was planned for the second year. However, we offered a cost-effective alternative which retained the original windows, by installing draught proofing and modern slim glass for improved acoustic and thermal performance.
We have now undertaken five work packages, refurbishing or replacing around 2000 sash and casement windows, with further phases still planned.
"On behalf of Riverside Group, we worked with TRC Contracts Limited over four phases of window refurbishment and replacement to listed and conservation area buildings in Liverpool. Both the works and resident liaison were of an excellent standard and the works were successfully completed to programme and budgets. The contractor’s understanding and experience of historic buildings was of great benefit in gaining the confidence of the Planning Authority and obtaining permissions."
